The Morris County Home Guide from FYI Neighbor New Jersey · Morris County
Next after Bergen

Morris County, up next.

Thirty-nine towns, from the train-line towns of Madison and Chatham to the hills of Mendham and the lake communities up north. Older colonials, newer subdivisions, and plenty of houses on wells and septic.

Our guides already apply here: same winters, similar houses, same state rules. Where Morris differs is underground: private wells, septic systems, and long driveways that need a plan before the first storm.

We're starting with the Bergen County mailer. Morris County is next.

Local notes
  • Utilities: JCP&L serves much of the county for electric, with PSE&G in some towns; gas is split between New Jersey Natural Gas and PSE&G. Check your bill and save the outage line.
  • Wells and septic: Many western and northern towns rely on private wells and septic. New Jersey's Private Well Testing Act requires a water test when a home with a private well is sold.
  • Contractors: Home improvement contractors must be registered with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs; plumbers, electricians, and HVAC contractors are state-licensed. Ask for the number.
  • Permits: Most mechanical, electrical, and structural work needs a permit from your town's construction office.
Owner: verify utility/water coverage per town before mailer
