The Passaic County Home Guide from FYI Neighbor New Jersey · Passaic County
Next after Bergen

Passaic County, up next.

Sixteen towns, from the split-levels of Wayne and Little Falls to lake houses in West Milford and the Highlands. River towns, hillside lots, and winters that hit harder up north.

Our guides already apply here. Two things matter more than usual: water in the basement along the Passaic River basin, and heat and power in the northern hills when a storm takes the lines down.

We're starting with the Bergen County mailer. Passaic County is next.

Local notes
  • Utilities: PSE&G serves most of the county for electric and gas; some northern areas are served by other utilities. Check your bill and save the outage line.
  • Water: The Passaic Valley Water Commission serves several towns in the south of the county; elsewhere, towns run their own systems and many lake-area homes use private wells.
  • Flooding: Parts of the county sit in the Passaic River flood plain. Check FEMA's flood map for your address before finishing a basement.
  • Contractors: Home improvement contractors must be registered with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs; plumbers, electricians, and HVAC contractors are state-licensed. Ask for the number.
  • Permits: Most mechanical, electrical, and structural work needs a permit from your town's construction office.
Owner: verify utility/water coverage per town before mailer
